what format is it? and exactly how big is it? If your going by the nice little chart on the back of your blank dvd, don't. It's a crock of shit. you can fit as much video as you want on a dvd.

Hello,
If its less than 9 gigabytes many dvd author programs will let you author it to a video_ts folder. Then use a shrinker like dvdshrink to get it down to 4.7gb. There will be some quality loss but you'll get it to dvd.

Ok, the only info I can find on the file when I click on properties is:
Type of file: Video Clip
UPDATE: I found that in the summary the file is named: movie1.avi
Audioi format is MPeg Layer 3
Opens with Windows Media Player
I have a series of these movies ranging from various sizes. A couple will fit on them but there are a few that dont. If I can find more information on the files a different way let me know. Is there an easy way to convert these to mpg.. Iso.. anything that will work on a DVD..
Thank -
i used that program and found that the file is an avi file.. How to convert to iso? or an mpeg?

Converting to dvd is a big job. it depends mainly on your processor speed. and also whether you're converting using CBR or VBR. CBR takes about half the time the VBR does. unless it's a good source, it's probably not worth using VBR. 12 hours is a little long. Your processor speed is not listed in your profile, so i'm not sure if that time is normal or not.

Without getting a new system the only way to go faster is using an encoder such as cce basic and then it will take at least 4 hours or more at optimal speeds using cbr with no filters.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
alright.. converted one of the movies with TMPGEnc Plus.. but.. it screwed up the movie quality horribly.. huge blocks of pixels.. all different colors.. you cant even recognize what you see on the screen. The original is a DVD rip, so it is good quality.

what guides are you following?
huge blocks of pixels.. all different colors -
If your starting from avi u need to convert to mpeg 1st,
then author the mpeg to a dvd structure (vob, ifo,etc...)
THEN either burn the dvd structure (nero) or create an iso and burn with other burning tools
An ISO in not needed. unless you want it that way. (I never make an iso imge myself - just burn with nero) -
TMPGEnc Author is quick and very easy to use, also has a burning engine built in
can recommend it.
