If there is a local law that forbids masks (e.g., ski masks, motorcycle helmets) be worn in shops than the DJ is an idiot and should be charged as per the law.

If there is no law, I think he should be charged with something appropriate with a fitting punishment.

I don't argue that this guy was an idiot and probably a trouble maker. I find it objectionable to label him as a terrorist, however.

Osama bin Laden is a terrorist. HIS crimes are orders of magnitudes worse than wearing a ski mask into a shop. What the DJ did in all terms of rationality is no more than a misdemenour. His "crime" should not ever be compared to "terrorism".

As I said before, labelling him as a "terrorist" is grossly disproportionate and debases the term of "terrorist".

Yes, but according to YOUR definition of terrorism it is "A terrorist is anyone who creates terror in another to further his own agenda". Your US media has created more terror in the US population than this guy ever will and for an agenda somewhat in complicity with the govt and party to better sales.

The media isn't what's terrifying ...it's what they're reporting. Unless, of course, you're phobic about on-camera announcers. I can see I'm trying to push spaghetti here. The media isn't what's terrifying ...it's what they're reporting.

If the media simply reported the facts then it wouldn't be terrifying at all. To almost any outsider looking into the US, the US public in general is "scared" of just about everything. IMHO, a lot of this has to do with the social engineering by your mass media and your politicians.

Anyway, I've stated my position and needless to say, I think that I'm right.

I guess I've become immune to the media - it really doesn't have an affect on me much. A story like this would normally go in one ear and out the other. Only that it's been hyped up more here that I'm actually taking a second look.

I'm American, and yea the media does use sensationalism to sell a story or to compete with other news sources...but as far as being "scared" of everything...no...maybe looks that way, or depends on the area you're from.

I live in a rural area about an hour drive from the nearest city.
If I worked in a convenient store in this area, a guy walking in wearing a ski mask would honestly not threaten me...and sounding off an alarm wouldn't help me much anyway
I'd be more cautious of someone looking stoned out of their mind or a shady looking person - more on the order of Charles Manson.
Sure places have been robbed a few times in these parts, but people don't have that type of fear around here.

I can actually leave windows or doors open at night and go outside at night - the odds of someone trying to break in are about 100 to 1
I don't own any guns either nor feel the need to

I worry more about a plane crashing into my home than being robbed or anything else - since the airport is an hour drive away and jet planes fly very low over me.
Ever since 9/11 - they seem to fly lower...and that 4th plane that went down that day was pretty close to where I am.


Heck, I've even been in areas that people claim are bad areas - like the mexican war streets on the North Side of Pittsburgh.
No one has ever bothered me there - and I've never seen anything happen there.
I wouldn't brush it off as nothing but it doesn't scare me away from ever going in that area again.


Anyway, just to say that not all Americans are living in fear - you'd never know it from this area.

I can't hate the French - I'd have to move out of this historic area named after the French and I'd have to break ties with my Canadian friends :P

Not gonna happen...even though I have no French heritage, I've been brought up with much French culture to be able to hate a entire country...I wouldn't know who my enemies were or even know why I hated them :P

I agree with that. You can't get a feel for how we think just by the news media. You need to live here for a while to really know - just visiting doesn't cut it. We're not a nation of cowering wimps, although the media would just love it if we were :P

There's a huge difference between French and French-Canadian, IMHO. I don't have any ill will towards Canada, except maybe Quebec, who would love to become a French possession again. The French are notoriously arrogant and that's a quality that I don't see in Canadians in general
