How long do you have to have an account before you get to invite someone? I have had mine for about a week, but no invites yet...

I heard it was about a week....but I bet it is also tied into how often you use it

Sorry, I was away all weekend. I should have read this thread before I sent it, but the gmail invite is in your inbox. If you already signed up, I think you can just forward the email to someone and it will let them use it.

From what I've heard, its partly random. I got my invite before a friend, even though he had his account longer. I still dont think he has any.

Correct, when gmail decides they need to expand the beta you will get invites, they will be given out randomly. However I think people actively using their account are more likely to get them.

My 2nd week I got 6 on monday, then 6 more on Wed. I've only had one since then and someone told me it was because I submitted a bug report. Apparently they sometimes give them out for that.

I like to access all my hotmail accounts at one time using Outlook Express. I tried to get gmail to use it and it doesn't work.

I can't remember the last time I accessed my hotmail accounts from the hotmail website....That's the best thing about hotmail in my opinion

OLE doesn't support the features that make Gmail Gmail. If you like hotmail then stick with that....

Stiltman, haven't you noticed that the entire user interface idea of Gmail would be destoryed by a traditional email client?

Guess I don't have enough email built up yet to really tell how the discussion group and stuff works/looks. Same goes for the labeling

As thayne and flaystus said, accessing your GMail account in Outlook would mean loosing some features, but the GMail website wishlist, they are working on a plain HTML (I assume this means no javascript) version of GMail, and they "will try" to give POP3 access to GMail (which means that you can open it in any email program, including outlook.)

tell you what does annoy me, large attachments! i'm on 600k/128k so a 10 meg attachment takes about ten minutes to upload, but there's no status bar or anything - just looks like the page has crashed.

I have to revise my statement about accessing gmail via OE....

After recieving a few emails, I like the grouping of messages...
Doesn't take too much to get used to the interface either.

Yeah a a friend attempt to send a 200k zip file to me resulted in it bouncing back from gmail saying it was to large... but you got to remember it IS technially a beta.
