  1. Please help !

I am using 1 ghz system with windows ME, 512 RAM, LG 8080B burner, with nero 5.5 and ulead dvd moviefactory, and a sony DVP- S530 D stand alone dvd player with sti or prime peripheral cdr/rw.

I want to burn home movies to s-vcd or minidvd (CD) for better quality. I usually get no disc or c13 error if I stray from standard vcd specs.

any help on SPECIFIC settings in TMPGenc and or nero or ulead to burn s-vcd ??? any other better software that will work ? how does the quality of xvcd compare to s-vcd and dvd ? what are best settings for x-vcd

    thank you- sammywoof

ps- any consensus on best authoring/menu software for cd-r/rw ??

I own a Sony S525, which I think is functionally pretty much the same as the 530.

This line of players does NOT support SVCD but I have had a lot of success with VCDs and XVCDs. The best XVCD results from these players, in my opinion, are produced by sticking with the exact VCD specs and then bumping up the bitrate to fit the video to an exact amount of CDs. I have successfully played VCDs at 2500kbps on the Sony.

You may also like to experiment with changing the resolution. I remember reading in the forums a while back that people were having good results from producing high-res (e.g. 480x576 PAL), high bitrate XVCDs compatible with the Sony players.

Whatever you do, stick with CBR encoding as VBR un-syncs the video and audio when played.
