    for doing backup's of dvd's can you just copy the files off the disk or does it need to be decrypted...thanks

    If it's commercial DVD, 99.999999999% of the time it's encrypted, so you must decrypt it before you can copy it.

    Try just copying the files, and see what happens. Most likely, you'll get an error message from Windows...
