  1. Meritline is having a 3 day sale on media, including the PioData 8X dvd-r
    s. These used to be Taiyo Yuden discs, which if they still are, this would be an incredible deal.
I have purchased from their sister store cdrdvdmedia.com and didn't have any problems except they were a little slow, but I still prefer to buy from supermediastore.com.

    The deal ends today though.

I haven't seen this posted here yet.

Our resident media expert, Lordsmurf, warns about Piodata media in this thread. About halfway down the page is his post and he mentions the fake Pioneer - aka Piodata - is awful media:

  3. LOL In the same thread he also lists PioData disks under the heading:

"Just to name some of the highest quality disks I know the majority of people have had the most success with success with are as follows:
Ritek, (mainly G03 & G04), Ricoh, Lead Data/ Primarily sold under the name ACCU, DUPEZ, AND PIODATA. Prime disks - Manufacutred by Gigastorage. Samsung BeALL DVD-R (Not +R) Optodisks - The highest quality appears to be the Gold-Topped 4x disks from the majority of the people who have used them. This is a list of the most compatibile and highest quality inexpensive media which can in many cases be far superior in both quality AND compatibility to more expensive name brands. Which certainly is better for all of us."

Piodata is just a brand, its the manufacturer that matters. Their 8X disks were manufactured by Taiyo Yuden, which are arguably the best quality disks made. Wheither they are still made by TY is unknown to me though.

Funny. His web site lists Piodata as "pathetic garbage media - landfill material":

    www.nomorecoasters.com

There seems to be a contradiction. Maybe Lordsmurf can chime in and clear up the confusion.

  5. I've had some experience with PioData 8x DVD-Rs. I've gotten a 25pk of TY02 (Taiyo Yuden) and a 25pk of RITEKG05. Both have burned at 8x without any problems, thought he Taiyo Yuden's had a better showing in CDspeed - the Ritek's had a slight dip past the 4GB mark during the read.

No offense to lordsmurf but his list seems to be outdated. Like lordsmurf thinks that the media list on videohelp.com is good enough that he doesn't need to update his so much. But I wish he would update it cause I don't trust those anonymous reviewers on this site. It is because of his list that many people are still looking for PVC Pioneer media! And media quality even from the same mediacode does change. But I'm sure he has good reasons for whatever he is doing.

Whatever was quoted up there was not my writing. That's not my writing style, nor is it something I'd say. I have never liked BeAll, that's for sure.

PIODATA media ID still sucks. May as well be called "PIOCOASTER". If PIODATA is now a brand using TY, then grab them because they are Taiyo Yuden, not Piodata. Again, brand vs ID.

I update that page as often as I can. Last update was just 1-2 weeks ago at most.

I didn't find that Lordsmurf quote in the thread. Are you sure you have the same thread?

EDIT: I found it. That quote wasn't made by Lordsmurf. It was made by Defense. :P

  10. As I mentioned in a post 4 days ago, Meritline has two lines of Piodata 8X media. One is clearly listed as TY and the other is not. Even at $1.49 I think this is a great price for 8X. It has sold before for over $3.

Still a few bugs in the system...
