Authoring is the process of taking an MPEG and generating DVD-compliant files and folders. Two folders will be generated - VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS, although AUDIO_TS is always blank and isn't really needed anymore. The VIDEO_TS contains all your DVD files - .VOB which is the actual video and audio, .IFO which is an information file, and .BUP which is a backup for the .IFO file.

  4. I believe the AUDIO_TS folder is present for the audio-only DVD (better known as DVD-audio). But the folder is not needed for movie DVDs since the audio and video are kept together.

  5. Thank you capmaster. Now, I have tv programs i have downloaded from the internet. How do i burn them to dvd-rw. I know I sound really ignorant but I am. and your answer to my first question was the clearest answer ive received so far. I have read various guides and cant make sense of them.

Instead of confusing yourself by reading several different guides, pick one and follow it. You should stop mentioning stuff that you downloaded too. Keep it up and you're likely to find yoursellf in trouble with the mods here.

    Follow what Teegee said.

Downloaded material is typically thought to be warez. Now maybe you captured it from your TV and are just calling that downloaded (I know some people who do)...but becareful with the word "downloaded".

Also, there is no one right way to author a DVD. There is no one set of programs. The best thing you can do is pick a guide, follow it, get your feet wet with it, learn some things (especially the vocabulary) and work from there.

I would also like to compliment you on your original post. Many times newbies get flamed for asking questions but you asked the question the right way and will not be flamed (somebody catch Indolikaa and Jeex before they read this thread ).

DVD work seems overwhelming at first and can be, just find a place to start and it will go easier than you think...it's actually pretty simple.
