Every DVD I make always is cut off on screen. It's been happening ever since I started trying to make them which is like half a year. I've tried countless software and countless guides. I've asked for help in IRC but got none. Also I've tried this on about 5 different DVD players and 2 TV's. Can someone tell me what is going on and give me some step by step instructions or are DVD's just meant to be cut off?

can you describe what you mean by cut off - do you mean like black borders top and bottom like widescreen.

when it plays the video is full screen with subtitles (it is anime) and the subs are half cut off.

Here are the stats for a video file I want to convert: Width 704pixels, Height 396pixels, Duration 0:23:34, Bit Rate 128kbps, MPEG Layer-3, Frame rate 23 frames/second, Data rate 126kbps, Video sample size 12 bit, Video Compression XVID. I use TMPEG to convert to DVD NTSC CBR MPEG-1 Layer AudioII Audio (MP2). I do Non-Interlace with 1:1 VGA as the aspect ratio and put the content of Video as a film movie, I leave the bitrate settings at the default and then encode.

Whats most likely happening is the overscan is cutting off the subs which are placed to low to begin with,if this is the case then what you can do is crop the setting to add a bit of black borders to the edges to adjust for the overscan which all tv`s have.Goto tmpgenc/settings/advanced/clip frame/arrange settings/center(custom size) and adjust so the picture has black borders of arounds 16 pixels added(686x382).
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
k, having another problem sometimes in TMPEG when I am encoding a video that is abou 20 minutes long, when I see the bitrate settings it sais that the output will be 70 minutes and that it will take a whopping 99.9% up of the disc
. And when I encode to that then burn it, it has no sound and then at the end of the video there is just a blank screen. Can anyone help me out. Again here is the stats of the video I want to encode: Width: 640, Height: 480, Duration 0:23:51, Audio format: MPEG Layer-3, Frame Rate: 23 Frames/second , Data Rate: 159kbps, Video Sample Size: 24 bit, Video Compression: DivX codec.

This last prob is caused by your source having VBR encoded audio. TMPGEnc doesn't like that. Extract audio and convert to wav. Then use original source as video source only, use wav file as audio source.

Alright, also, can anyone reccomend a good burning software? CloneDVD2 is what I've been using but sometimes it messes up and stays on setting up, erasing and at 0% for like 20 minutes then I have to manually end the program and stop my DVD-ROM from recording, thus wasting a disc, this has happened quite a few times now.

DVDDecrypter is free, although you have to make an ISO image of your project before you can burn with it.

I just realised that it's not burning because it sais the Video_TS folder is too big to fit on a DVD. The folder is 6.4 G. And I ripped it with DVD decrypter. Is there a way for me to fit this on a disc?

6.4GB?
Has it actually been converted to MPEG-2 yet??"It's getting to the point now when I'm with you, I no longer want to have something stuck in my eye..." -

theese weren't the files I was encoding this is an actual DVD that I ripped with DVD Decrypter. I'll try DVD Shrink and get back to you.

Okay, last question, I swear :P. On some discs that I burn part way through, it will stop and freeze up and I have to restart the DVD player (currently my Ps2), and when I watch the video again it is fine, so I know it's not that specific part. Is this a result of a bad file? bad encoding? bad software? or a bad writer?. I am currently burning at 2x would burning at 1 prevent this?

You get what you pay for, luckily I only got 1 tub to test, utter shite ! -
It would be nice if retailers would allow you to know the media ID code before buying. Would save a lot of heartache.

well I only got 5 of those discs left so I'll have to buy more DVD-R's soon, which brand do you reccomend?

I've had good results with TDK. I'm told Taiyo Yuden are worth trying, too.
