I have a PAL VHS tape which contains a movie that was originally 100% 23.976fps film (no VT sections, etc) I'm ok with it being in PAL (even with the 4% speedup), but for the convenience of others who will want to watch the resulting DVD on non-multistandard DVD players, I thought I'd convert it to back to NTSC. I captured in 25fps PAL (720 X 576), and used TMPEGEnc to create the m2v/wav files with no attempt to account for the 4% difference. I found myself wondering - would it serve any purpose to attempt to fix that difference, and/or restore the original 24fps filmic nature of the movie, or, would it be a waste of effort, since the DVD standard assumes/forces the movie to be played back at 29.97fps anyway.

    Your opinions are much appreciated.

  2. It you didn't fix it, the movie might be a bit choppy due to the loss of frames or duplication of frames depending on how you converted it back to NTSC. Try slowing it down 4% and change it back to 23.976 fps. You'll have less frames to encode and your dvd player will telecine it to 29.97 fps for proper playback.
Do you remember when TMPGEnc needed an English patch?

plus anyone viewing on a progressive TV system (which you all will be soon if you're not already) will benefit from 24fps, the 29.97 wouldn't look very nice in comparison!
