Hey all!
I just got back from Future Shop, where I spend a sh!tload of money.
So you know, at least in Ontario, the Maxell 10 packs are on sale for $15 each. Both the -R and +R are on sale.
I cleaned out my store. The manager was like 'Can I find you some more?'. However, he couldn't.
Here's the thing. Are these as good as the disks that come in the 5 packs? They look the same, but are they?
Thanks for the help!

A month ago, Futureshop sold these at $8 for 5. Now, it's $15 for 10.
I wonder what the sale price will be a month from now for 4X spindles (which are still Made in Japan quality)?
These sales are occurring so frequently now, I don't see the point in stockpiling anymore. -
So then I guess they're good disks, eh? I'm glad, since I bought 250 of them.
I agree with the sales being frequent thing. However, there's a problem in that I fear the media will no longer be made in Japan soon. Then there might be quality problems and my picky E50 won't work any more.
Can't have that. The driving factor in my buying the E50 was that it was Made in Japan. That means a lot to me. Same reason I like Gundam models. So many toys are made in China, but the models are still Japanese.
Maybe just my fetish, I don't know, but I fear the day Maxell switches its branded -Rs to CMC.Mechworker -
10pks should be the same as 5pks. That being said, always double check the discs with dvdinfopro
Re awai: Thats a tough one. Hopefully they will keep going on sale. However before the last batch of sales a few weeks ago, the last sale was at the end of december! So it was about 3months of waiting.
I do share mechworkers concerns about what happens if Maxell decides to outsource. However, at the moment I do have a decent sized cache of disks.
FWIW: Walmart regularly sells 15pc spindles (if you can find them on the shelves that is) for $25. Thats $1.66 a disc, compared to the $1.50 sale. Still a good price, but not low enough to make me consider increasing to my stockpile

I purchased a 15 spindle of 'blue' maxell dvd+r from Wal-mart a couple days ago.I burned of couple dvd's fine with it (did'nt work on one out of three dvd players, toshiba sd-1800).
However after these lucky two, I noticed the edge of the dvds had visible notches along them. Inserting these DVD+r's into my LG GSA-4040B, they would not even read. Sonic Recordnow and Nero refused to even try burning them. I am talking about fresh from the spindle, unburned discs.
The whole rest of 'em, gone.
Alas the story does not end there. I got really mad at my bad luck, and my habit for throwing receipts away, and for buying at Wal-Mart. So I went to battle with them and actually got DVD decrytor to succesfully burn one,at full tilt; and it even works in my really dodgy toshiba player. One of the very discs from my verified bad pile!
So I guess there is no clear winner or loser here, except for our hero DVD decryptor. What an amazing piece of work, it did'nt burned that disc, it grabbed it by its maxell collor, forced it into submission and then pounded the data, bit by bit, into its cowardly dye.
The moral of my story, dvd backup is a fickle lady, and if you want expensive toilet paper, you might just get that if you did as I have done, and take a chance on these maxi's.
PS- Got them for bayfield walmart in barrie ontario. I have seen a couple baretonians humpin these forums, wink. -
Was that +R or -R?
When people speak good of maxell, it's only the -R media. (The +R is okay, but not at the same "god-like" status that -R media is worshiped at
If it' was -R, I hope it's just a fluke, and not indicative of a trend.
