Yet Another important media quiestion

Hi guys. I just purchased a sony laptop which came with a dvd/vd burner combo drive that burns in all formats.

I could not find the mdoel of this burner anywhere to find compatible media so here it is SONY DW-U50A

I dont know if this is the same as other sony's or not. I was thinking of getting the Accu media from meritline.com since they got for .80 cents. I understand that they are 1X but my burner is only 1X so that does not make a difference for me.

So can some please sugest some good media for me. Remember I dont care if its 2X or 4X because my burner is only 1X. I do care about the quality so I dont want it to stop working several months later like the princo's. So please gimme ur opnions on the Accus and overall what you think.

Oh yea and the dvd player I will be playing them on is a pioneer dv-c302d

By the ywa I just went to Compusa and they have a special sale on DVDrs 7.99 for a 10-pk! both DVD-RW/+rw/-R/+r. So i bought one rw and one r. popped them in the drive and what do u know PRINCO! so stay away from these.

The thing is that earlier I bought a two pack from Compusa their brand as well and dvdinfo said they were Optodisc. Howcome this one is a different manufacturer. By the way Is Optodisc ok?

I have also a dw-u50a
We can change info about the compatible media.

I live in Spain, and my drive is OEM.I use the drive in a computer that is not Sony.

First, you must now that is available an upgrade for the drive. Version 1.5f. This hypothetically allow write DVD+ at 4x. But Im unable to make work at 4x.

I have links to the firmware upgrade pages...ask if want to...

I have problems reading at speeds over 2x.
Most of the tests I make with Nero tools, nero DriveSpeed Nero DVDSpeed

I work under W2000.

I found compatible, DVD+RW TDK 4x (made by Philips)
DVD-RW Verbatim 2.4x
DVD+RW Verbatim 2.4x

NOT COMPATIBLE WITH:
DVD-RW Princo 2x

No much more tests yet.

try looking in the media section of this site... alot of user comments on all brands of media... if u want something reliable - buy something reliable... (not Accu or Princo...) the rule is :
get what works best for you!

This Update for you burner maybe of use to you.

Sony DW-U50A Version 1.5f Firmware Upgrade

* The firmware upgrade is for Sony DW-U50A optical drives only.

* This Upgrade Program will resolve the following symptom:
1. Support 4x DVD+RW writing media

As 1X media is all but dead and extinct...and what is left is the dregs as its not been made for a while now.

I have updated to this version ... 1.5f...

But the drive says that is 2x.


Anyone has been able to make work this drive at 4x with 1.5f and DVD+ media?
