Ulead DVD WorkShop 2 is making huge files ?

I imported a 1.3 GB mpg into WorkShop and when I go to burn it, it is saying I need 25 GB of free space and that my disc (dvdr) is not large enough. What am I doning wrong ?

select a lower bit rate.

You are taxing my memory here but...bitrate wise I think:

8000 = 1 hour of video per DVD
6000 = 90 minutes of video per DVD
4000 = 2 hours of video per DVD

Quality goes down as the bit rate goes down. But 8000 or 6000 are both very good.

If you don't know where to find that, it is in the finishing step when you select your output, when you select DVD a little menu will come up asking you for the bitrate.

1.3 GB sounds like about a 90 minute video or so.

Just a little something extra here, but if you choose say the 6000 bitrate and the video is still too big, just write it to the HD as the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders and then compress it with Instant Copy 7 or DVD shrink. Making it smaller by that method will give you better picture quality than setting the bitrate to 4000.

I wouldn't burn directly out of DVDWS, many users have problems with audio sync, I've never had that problem with it, but others have. Just letting you know so you don't burn a coaster.

I don't know if this will solve your problem but you didn't give any specifics on the mpg file, the codec, what it is (downloaded, self created, etc), MPEG-1 or 2, etc.
