  1. Hi!

I've got a problem. ATI MMC 8.5 won't produce multiple file segments if the recorded file gets too big. It just writes the first 2GB,4Gb (whatever I told it) and then discards the rest.

    I'm capturing DVD quality on a Win98SE system (FAT32).

    Any suggestions?

  2. The problem is that you're using a FAT32 file system, which has a file size limit of 4Gb. Windows 98 doesn't support NTFS. NTFS can be used in Windows NT, 2000 and XP, and it doesn't have the file size restriction. Since the video you are capturing is exceeding the file size limit, MMC has to break up the files in order to be able to keep capturing.

    Err...?

Maybe I just didn't make myself clear enough... I wanted to know why that dumb MMC doesn't break up the file like it should do and gives me movies with the last half hour missing...
I'm familiar with that Fat32 problem but it really wouldn't matter to me if MMC would work properly.

    So what can I do?

    1. Get Win2K or XP
    2. Get a capture program that does segments.
    3. Complain to ATI

    P.S. ( #3 was a joke )

No, I won't do that as long as it is possible. Maybe I'll set up a recording machine with XP but for now I need to get things working without spending money on that XP crap...

Get a capture program that does segments.
    Then tell me which one.

PowerVCRII recording Quality sucks (compared to ATI), WinDVR dto. and both tools are much too unflexible regarding to MPEG2 capture settings and they cost way too much money for what they offer.

VirtualDub would be nice if it would work together with the ATI card. I wouldn't want to capture in huffyuv or mjpeg anyhow since I would like to keep the opportunity to record more than one movie a day...

    Complain to ATI

Man, the storys I could tell you...
