  1. Does anyone know of a "free" digital film clip library for use in movie making transitions?

Such a stock footage library would have special effects clips like "Crashing Cars", "crashing trains", for example. The clips would be only a few seconds to a minute long. I have seen some of these sites but can't seem to find them again.

    Thanks,
    Paul

  2. I once ask this same question and someone told me a site.
I will try to look for that forum.

The other answer I got. Was to capture the FX clip from a VHS, DVD or a TV movie.

you can check out the Moving Images archive at www.archive.org - features 1200+ movies from the Prelinger collection of industrial, educational and ephemeral films.

another source is your local computer shop or computer fair - there are collections of footage on cd-rom that can be had cheap - I think I have some silent-film era footage of cars and trains crashing that came on a disc full of footage that came with a screen saver program. Some of this stuff can be had for $1 or $2... it might not have the best native resolution or frame rate (15fps is pretty common, as well as frame sizes like 320x240).

if you find some good sources for stock footage, make sure you share with the rest of the class!

  4. There is a wide range of stock footage providers out there:

digitaljuice.com - high quality stock animations and footage. Not bad prices if you need a ton of clips.

artbeats.com - super high quality, even HD, animations and footage. Extremely expensive. Used for broadcast work.

footageshack.com - "media" quality stock footage. Under $10 a clip (what masses can afford!). Pay by the clip. You can sell your stuff their too.
