  1. I'm trying to use the mux tool in ffmpeg to join an mpeg2 video file with a .aif audio file (both encoded with quicktime's mpeg-2 export), and am not having much luck. after selecting the two files in the appropriate fields, selecting 'mux as MPEG-2' and clicking the 'mux' button, the task manager will pop up, and almost instantly say the task is finished. However, no muxed file is created. if anyone could help with this, I would appreciate it.

is your .aiff file 48,0000 hz?
If it isn't, open it in quicktime and export it.
this may not be the answer, but it might be.

Try converting the .aiff to a (gag) .wav. I've had problems like this before that were solved this way.

this causes the ffmpeg task manager to give me a "failed" result.

It just worked for me. ffmpegX 0.0.9a, using the .aif file didn't work, converting the .aif file to .wav did. ffmpegX produced a .mpg movie described as, 'VIDEO: mpeg-2, size: 720x480, 29.970 fps, 2326 kbps. AUDIO: mp2, 48000Hz, 224 kbps', which worked fine in QT 6.5. Check your source files is all I can think of, for now

  7. after using quicktime to convert the .aif into .wav, i was able to get ffmpeg to convert that into an .mp2 file. with that done, it will begin to mux the audio/video, but fail after combining 6MB of it.
is this an issue with the binaries or something?

I think there might be something wrong with one of the source files. You might try recreating them. You don't have to convert the .wav to .mp2. ffmpegX will do that automatically. Just enter the .m2v and .wav files and then hit Mux as... (I selected MPEG-2).

after trying each of the source files in mplayer, it seems to be the video portion that it has a problem with (although other media players handle it fine, so arguably it IS a problem with the binary). i'm trying a re-encode now.
