I've done a search for this and couldn't find an absolute answer.

I've captured a TV program at 720X576, the program is interlaced.

What do I have to do to it before I can put it on a DVD?

Do I have to de-interlace it or Do I just put it straight onto DVD, bearing in mind I want the absolute top quality picture possible.

    Cheers in advance.

  2. ASSUMING that the codec you used is MPEG-2, and

ASSUMING that your capture program creates compliant files, and

ASSUMING that your GOP is 15 for PAL, and

ASSUMING that your audio is 48k, and

ASSUMING audio is either WAV or AC-3, or

ASSUMING your burning prog will do the necessary audio conversion, then

you should be all ready to go. Deinterlace is not necessary.

    Hi hudster,

What format have you captured in to? AVI? (What's the file extension?)

Where have you captured to? PC? DVD recorder?

    Capture to AVi using VirtualVCR.

What I'm doing at present is editing in vortualdub, saving as an AVI, using deinterlace filter.

convert to mpeg in TMPGENC before authoring using TMPGENC authoring program.

My problem is the AVI is clear, but the resultant DVD is quite blocky and I don't know what i'm doing wrong.

Seeing as how its a straight TV capture, can I convert to mpeg without having to do any filtering or should i deinterlace etc.

Codec you captured in and bitrate?

Don't de-interlace, MPEG-2 at 720x576 has to be interlaced unless you have a progressive TV and player. That's probably one source of problems.

    In addition to Gazorgan's comments...

This would suggest that the settings you're using in TMPGEnc could be better (i.e. higher bitrate). See this guide for detailed info on settings in TMPGEnc.

Also, your audio (however you do it) must be @ 48,000Hz - whatever format.

As you're in Scotland, you'll want the PAL details.

    Good luck...

Well, you have the capturing down. You need to CONVERT/EDIT, AUTHOR nad BURN.

Guides for this are over here
