Ok Im running win2k and I set the huffman codec to high quality, im capturing from TV tuner and I set to 29.97fps NTSC. Now when i capture at 480 x 480 all is well but when i capture at 640x480 the video plays back jerky like its in slowmotion and has litytle lines horizontal in some places. Virtualdub says I have no dropped frames so I am confused.

Huffyuv is not designed for real-time playback. But there's nothing wrong with the capture! When you render the recording into another format (mpeg, DivX, VideoCD, etc.) it'll be just fine.
The problem is that the computer can't decompress the frames fast enough to play the video. You must have a pretty fast computer, which could handle 480x480, but it can't handle the 50% increase posed by 640x480. -
Well I have a Celeron II 566 @ 952, 192 megs pc133. I think the problem is that my 20 gig HD is 5400 rpm. I have just bought a 45 gig 7200rpm so maybe it will work.

If you're just capturing to make VCD or SVCD, don't worry about whether the captured files play smoothly. They'll still make perfect mpegs.
On the other hand, if you really want to be able to play your video immediately after capturing it (without converting to another format) try capturing with the PicVideo MJPEG codec. http://www.jpg.com/video/mjpeg.htm -
well even after converting the 640x480 huffluv file to mpeg1 the problems were still their wierd.
