  1. I've tried to format 2 Ritek DVD-RAM with my LG and the box that comes up to format shows "no disk in drive". All other formats work ok. Help.

I have a 4020B, I didn't use the driver. With WindowsXP sp1, it saw the RAM disk and I formatted it as FAT32.

  8. Check these postings. The very last posts lists a program to use for writing to DVD-RAM.

  9. XLR8 thanks for the reply. Looked at the posts but I'm still trying to format. That program made me reinstall my drive.

Not sure if this would help, but you never mentioned exactly what type of Ritek RAM discs you used. The LG 4040B can only format the 4.7/9.4GB DVD-RAM discs, not the old 2.6/5.2GB RAM discs although it can read them all right.

  14. Try Panasonic DVDRAM LF-D521 window 9x driver from driverguide.com, it works for my LG 4040b on Windows ME.

If you are not affraid to strugle through a little bit of german language during installation strangely LG is only offering on their german service-website DVD-RAM-drivers for the last three DVD-Combo-Writers which are able to write and read DVD-RAM on their website:

    http://www.lgeservice.de/cgi-bin/lgservice.cgi?group=15&modell=&func=Group_Search

There are seperate drivers for the GSA-40XXB with XX=20, 40, 81
    for WIN9x, WIN2000 and WINXP.
For the GSA-4040B there are also two firmware-updates offered.

The installation ist straight forward: Hardware-connect your DVD-Writer,
then after unzipping the driver-zip-file start setup.exe. Be patient to wait a while as the process takes some time until the system reboots. After this you are all set and now also can format with the utility installed the DVD-RAM to FAT32 and UDF2.0.

Due to this you now can also read DVD-RAMs which contain recorded videos from a Panasonic-DVD-RAM-recorder.

Any of these drivers can also be used to enable DVD-RAM-compatible DVD-ROM-Drives from LG like GRD-8162B to read UDF-2.00/2.01-formatted DVD-RAMs for the same purpose as mentioned above.

    Have fun
