    I have following system:

    Abit NF7s MOBO with athlon XP 2700
    corsair XMS 512 pc3200 stick
    Abit video card with 128meg
    two 80gig maxtor HD

    If i increase to 1 gig of ram will this increase speed? lets say authoring a one hour video?

    Nope. You have enough. Authoring isn't RAM intensive. It does tend to be CPU and I/O intensive. I always go faster if the sources are on 1 disk and the output is on another. This is especially true if there's no conversions (audio usually) to be done.

  4. ignore me i misread the question, i thought u meant it took an hour to author.
    why do u want to author quicker?
    it only takes about ten mins
    i would be more concerned with the time it takes encoding eg mainconcept encodes 3 times faster than tmpgenc
    anyway im rambling again
