Hello,
I have sucessfully converted an .avi file to .mpg file. No synch issues. Everything is great. I followed one of the guides (Gary's AVI-SVCD).
I am now trying to use TMPGenc to burn onto a DVD and I am getting the following error messages:
"The video resolution 480*480 can not be used for a DVD"
and
"The framerate 29.97fps cant be used with the 480*480 resolution"
and
"The video GOP is too long"
The original file was 640*464 and 23.976fps encoded with DivX5.0.5. Audio is 48000hz, 2 channel stereo, Mpeg Layer 3 codec, 130kbps.
The new
I followed the guide exactly so what gives?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
LG

You are using a frame size for SVCD. You should try 352x480 instead, as it is close to your target resolution and is a legal DVD frame size.

Would it be "better" (ie. more advantageous and/or easier) if I converted to DVD instead of SVCD? Since I will be putting 5 .mpeg's on a DVD?
In TMPGEnc, I have chosen the bitrate to give me 19% of a standard DVD (each mpeg is about 812meg). So I figure 5 mpegs on a disk, then add the menu and that should just about do it.
Any flaw in this logic?

Total run time, frame size and bit rate are what you need to focus on to determine how much you can fit onto a DVD and get acceptable results. Forget about the size of your individual clips. Add the run times together and use a bit rate calculator to find the rate you need to use, then try experimenting with some sample clips of your source using different frame sizes and the bit rate you come up with for your project until you get something that is acceptable to you. Try 720x480, 352x480 or 352x240, depending on the total length of the clips you want on your DVD.
