When you install Xp it will allow you to install it in a new partition. It will also set up your boot sector to allow multi OS

And what are the minium reqerments for a multiboot...sorry for all this posting but i really am intrested on a multiboot system
-
Judo, all you have to do is install win2k and winXP. The have there own dula booting program. If you want to dual boot xp with ME then install ME, set up another partition then install 2k or xp in that partition. The partition magic program is pretty good.
Nothing is impossible for Dilemma says so!!!! -
Thats right.
Install WinME 1st, then Win2000, then WinXP last - all in seperate partitions. When you boot your system, you will be presented with a simple menu (it will appear after all the BIOS info), asking you which OS you would like to boot. You dont need 3rd party software to do this, you dont even need to configure it... it couldnt be more simple - What more do you want? Seeing as you are not dual booting anything other than M$ OS's, the multiboot menu that XP installs will do fine. Dare I say it is idiot proof?
All you have to do is install 3 OS's, finishing with XP.
The minimum requirments for dual boot systems are... 2 or more installed OS's.

what happens if i dont like xp and want to remove it and i only want ME and 2000 on my system will it have the boot up menu too????????
-
Well, here's the funny thing, when you install Me then 2000, you are using the 2000 boot manager. Now, when you install Me, then 2000, then XP, you are using XP boot manager. So if you decide to kill XP, you're screwed.
The best thing to do would be to leave XP in it's original state, then edit boot.ini so that XP is not an boot option. -
i think i can try out XP first with multibooting with ME and 2000 ill install on my XP with my old computer and test it on that and if i dont like it i wont include it with with my other computer....thanx for all the help but can i get more info on people that has/had a multiboot and can u tell me if it was frustrating or great experiance....thanx again for the help guys

Dude... you are using ME. NOTHING can be worse than that!
I have a multiboot system:
Win98SE, MS-DOS, BeOS, Linux.
Hopefully, to be added soon - FreeBSD (currently downloading - "only" 500MB to go... on 56k), OS/2 and WinXP.
I love multibooting - It gives me the option of
"Where DONT I want to go today?"

I'm running Windows 98SE on a 40GIG HD and Windows 2000 on a Promise ATA 100 raid board with two 60GIG HD. My 40GIG is attached to a swap drive directly to my motherboard and my 60GIG's are directly attached to the raid card. If I want to boot to W98, I turn on my swap drive. If I want my W2000, I turn off my swap drive. I need to reboot both operating systems. I built it this way just incase I loose a HD, I will always have an operating system. Anything important is saved on a CDRW which I can access using both operating systems.

ASUS P3V4X
1024 GIG PC133
Firewire
Pioneer DVD
Sony CDRW
ATI Radeon 64 Vivo
SB Live (next week the Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum eX)

ONE last Question can i multiboot with 40gig hard drive or do i need more space??? i am currently useing only 5.78gig out of my 40 sooo can i still use it or will i have problems????? thanx for all the help guys
-
I have two HD's, an 8GB and a 10GB giving me a total of 18GB to store all my OS's on... 40GB will be ample.
Multiboot systems dont need a mass of storage space, what takes up the most space of a system are media files and such, not the OS(s). -
thanx for all the help daniel and all the others, now im ready to multiboot with all the knowledge u guys shared with me ...thanx again
-
Can i still use my old software that is in my other os and use it with Xp and 2000????...thanx for all the help guys
-
You will have to reinstall it (if it the software requires installing) under each OS. The question of whether the software will work or not under 2000/XP is another matter. You will just have to try it and hope for the best. You could also check the websites of the developers to see whether the software has 2000/XP compatibility.

No Problemo... I dont suppose that you could now help me a bit in installing FreeBSD on my system could you?
(Just kidding) -
i did the same thing, installed XP together with Win2k (and Suse7.2, FreeBSD and Win9
, beacuse I thought I am gonna use Win2000 and test XP. I used Win2k 2 times since the XP installation.
What I wanna say is: you'll not need W2K ever again. I think, XP isn't better a lot, just a little bit, but you can do with XP whatever you did with Win2k and even more.
