Hardware DVD players/recorders don't use a codec per se.
If you are looking for firmware, it's at the link you provide.
If you want to know how to get some codec to make DV video go into the box? Recorders with an i.Link/Firewire interface automatically convert the DV stream into MPEG2 which is recorded into VOB files on the DVD.Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin' -
Code (software/firmware) that enables your Recorder do what it does. If there is problem in code and some functions does not perform correctly, manufacturer releases new firmware (driver) that you can dowload, burn to CD and update that code in your DVD Recorder.Originally Posted by 5thandlastPinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home)

Cheers for that people.
But what happens, say in 4 years when the Codecs on DVD's change and the disks won't play, which has happened on earlier DVD players? -

I'd bet that the problem is with the menu or the disc structure and not the movie. As menus and special features get more complicated, they're shaking out the players that aren't 100% compatible with what the dvd format can do. (And by dvd I mean a disc "package" - the mpg movie, subs, audio tracks, branching, etc.) I remember when Terminator 2 (the first edition, not the thirteen subsequent "ultimate" editions) first came out there were *many* players that couldn't handle it. My copy even came with an insert that said "Your player may suck. If so, do XXX to make the movie play."Originally Posted by 5thandlast
