I backed up a couple of old VHS tapes which spcified on the case that they did in fact have Macrovision, but when I used pass-through to iMovie (on a Mac, of course) it didn't appear in my capture.

When using my AIW card the Marcovision always came through.

Anyone else seen this phenomenon? Maybe I will sell my Sima...

  2. Keep your Sima you might need it down the road nothing last for ever. And you will be kicking your self if you sell it.

  4. Sorry I do not have your set up I do use a Sima copy master to defeat macrovision. I just feel it's alway good to have some else to do it you never know when you might have other problem's. If you get a DVD recorder you really should keep it.

  5. AIW cards are made to detect Macrovision, as are DVD Recorders. The Use of Sony and some other cameras, connected via Firewire is a known method of overcoming this problem.

I use a Vidac VMagic (PAL) hardware MPEG2 encoder which totally ignores Macrovision and produces a perfect DVD compliant file from Macrovision sources in real time.

I also have a Pinnacle analogue capture card, but this needs a device similar to the Sima to get a reasonable picture. As advised, best to keep the Sima, as you never know when it might be needed
