  1. I captured a movie from vhs using Sonic MyDVD. (I know from reading that this probably isnt the best way, but its what I have). By using this I can capture in Good 16MB/Min, Better 31MB/Min, or Best 30MB/min. The show I just captured I did in Best setting which gave me an mpeg2 that was 6.6 gig. I used Tmpgnec DVD author to create the dvd vob files. Then I used dvd shrink to bring it down to the 4.5 gig, then burned with Nero. I thought the quality was poor.

Should I have captured in Good quality which would have created a file that would be under the 4.5 gig and thus I would not had to DVDShrink the file down? I could take the mpeg2 right into Tmpgnce DVD A and created the dvd folder to burn with Nero.

My initial thought was that it would be better to capture in the best quality and go down from there digitally? But I now.. Im doubting that.

    Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Check your captured quality. DVD Shrink should not have lowered the quality that much, from 6.6 to 4.5.

  3. I decided to recapture the entire movie again using the sonic mydvd but I changed the quality from Best 60MB/min to Good 16 MB/min. It gave me a file about 4.7 gig Vs the Best of 6.6 gig. In either case I had to use dvd shrink to bring the file down to dvdr size.

I took the 4.7, used dvdshrink v3 beta which made it small enough to burn onto a dvdr using Nero. Naturally it had less to shrink than when it was 6.6 gig.

The video captured on the good quality was clearer when watching on the tv.

Im surprised that by capturing it at only good quality in the start rendered a best quality when watching it on the dvd through the tv. I would have thought that you would want the best quality from the vhs to the comptuer and then lessen the quality so it would fit onto a dvdr?

    More thoughts?
