I just bought a 200gig hard drive and I want to capture as AVI. With the defaults it will take my whole hard drive just to capture a little more than 2 hours. I want to use Premiere to do my editing and from what I have seen AVIs seem to work better in Premiere than MPG files. Which settings should I choose. Also don't I need 720x480 to capture good quality for DVD production or do I use a lower resolution for AVIs and then convert later?

Can someone help me before I lose my mind?

    Thanks,

You can capture in 720x480 but most likely your source isn't that high quality. I would capture at 1/2 dvd (352x480). Remember to use Huffy or some other near lossless codec. Edit everything you want to in Premiere and then export it to MPG when you are all finished. From there create your dvd.

To do fancy editing, AVI. (Removing commercials is not editing, just splicing.)
