  1. I have a couple movies that just won't finish downloading (I use BitTorrent) and have been perpetually stuck at 99% (99.3 and 99.8 to be exact) for the past month now. I'm wondering if I could just go ahead and burn them without any playback problems? They seem to play fine in my windows media player.

And also, one of the movies came with subtitles files (.srt). Would I be able to embed them in successfully?
    Thanks.

    Do NOT advocate warez.

Warez includes pirate/bootleg movies(movies that are not yet released on DVD or VHS).

he never said he was downloading warez ...

in answer to your question -- i dont download movies from those p2p but i imagine that you could go ahead and burn it but it may either break up right at the end or be ok or miss the last few seconds ... thats only a guess though ...

subtitles can be embedded with virtualdub and the subtitle filter ..

  4. If your movie is an avi file, you might want to use something like DivFix to rebuild the index if the file is not complete.

A player like WMP will ignore a lot of problems with the file, but other apps may be a lot less forgiving.

Read the guides on how to convert & add your subtitles in from the .srt file. I'd go along with BJ_M - the best way is to use a subtitle filter in VirtualDub (and then maybe frameserve into an encoder like TMPGEnc).

  5. maybe i should've been a little more specific but one of the movies that is stuck at 99.8% that'd i'd like to go ahead and burn has subtitle files so i was wondering if the movie not being complete will cause any problems when attempting to add the subs in the movie?

  6. I don't see why it should, as long as the video file itself plays okay.

All the .srt file contains is the text for the subtitles, and timings for when they should appear.

It's unlikely there'll be subtitles timed to appear in the last few seconds of the credits etc.. I'd have thought.

If in doubt - try it & see!

    cheers,

If the d/l file is Mpeg 1 or 2 re save it in a program like M2VCR or M2Edit and it fixes the truncated file
or import the file to NonLinear Editor and re-render at at equal or higher bitrate to repair

  8. i put in the subs in the movie with virtualdub and encoded it with tmpgenc, but the audio and the subtitles are not in sync with the video...about 2 secs behind. i know this is probably due the movie file that's not complete (99.8%). is there a tool or a setting withing one of these programs that can fix this problem? thanks.

For anyone who if wondering, "Bit Torrents" is just another type of file sharing of which the vast majority is of the same category as stuff from Kazza and other P2P systems. The only diference is that you can be assured that they are not infected ( Progs ) as with other P2P. So if I decide to DL a Divx of even a full DVD rip from "Bit Torrents" it falls under the realm of warez.

Well,,, I can only vouch for what I've been told by my work mate who spend probably all of his spare time downloading torrents. He braggs about the thousands of expensive programs he now has and so far 100% virus free. Of course you can never be sure of what you can DL to your computer and that's why I don't do it.
The only reason I even replied is when I saw Bit Torrents being discused in the original message regarding a 99% stuck DL of a movie. Of course it was Warez!!!!!! Whether it was mentioned or not!
I also wonder where someone that mentions using Sonic Scenarist got their copy from. Maybe they work in a big production house,, but more than likely they don't.
