  1. i'm wondering, in you guys' opinion, what's the best cheap media out there. by cheap i mean under a dollar per dvd. but what's a good brand to buy that you could record movies and stuff that you won't watch often but will still be reliable

Sorry but as has been stated many times before ..... Them 2 words Cheap Media mean only one thing... TROUBLE..
Best to stick to Ritek or one of the other good brands. You are just wasting money buying cheap media in the long run.
In the UK we are looking at maybe a extra 20p a disk for quality media and its worth every penny in the long run..

  5. i guess if you live near a pc club store it would be ok ...but shipping fed x super saver is 33 dollars extra or 22 dollars extra for fed x ground.

Whereas, NEWEGG gives FREE fedx super saver and 55 dollars for 50 G4's and they are GRADE A.
PC Club might not be grade A disks , whereas NEWEGG's Ridata brand is the offical USA retik brand.

P.S. Rima.com sells g4's for 99 dollars for 100 ridata brand plus 5 dollars ground ups or 105 shipped ground.
P.S. NEWEGG a little more 110 dollars for 2 50 packs ... but much, much better shipping method for FREE!

  6. i should add that when i went to order from PC club I ordered 3 25 spindles at 19.99 .... then I saw the shipping for the 3 spindles 99 dollars for fedx super saver! Unbelieveable!

That's 99 dollars for shipping and handling plus the price of the 3 spindles 60 dollars!... came out to 160 dollars for 3 25 spindles that are not even a NAME brand (like ridata USA retik)

Whereas 150 Ridata USA retik disks from NEWEGG for about 165 dollars!

75 inferior g4's from pc club for 160 dollars........ or 150 grade A G4's for 165 dollars from NEWEGG! same shipping method

Who in their right mind would recommend PC Club if they are gonna ship anything.

P.S. I know i went on and on about this ... but I really was shocked by the shipping and handling prices PC Club uses!

  7. Another vote for Ritek. I've ordered from both the Newegg and Rima - both are top notch. No discernable difference between the media from either company. Rima's customer service is absolutely the best though. Excellent staff, and they truly bend over backwards for the sale.

Problem with cheaper media (in my experience) is coasters/defects. If just one in five discs of a no-name brand has a glitch or coasters out (which is pretty low based on what I've experienced), then you are losing 20% of the cost. Not to mention the time wasted. We've come a long way, but 15 minutes is still a long time to burn a disc by my standards. Especially when you're backing up your 450 DVD collection.

Anyway, another vote for Ridata G04. If you can get them substantially cheaper, then Memorex DVD-Rs (4x only), TDK, and Optodisc Golds are pretty good too.

    Best of Luck,

If you are talking about buying RETAIL.....IN A STORE like Best Buy or whatever.....buying SOME here and there....then Fuji's will do good for you. Verbatim singles will do good for you. But as you can see....RITEK BRAND IN BULK is the BEST way to go if you are buying QUANTITY from an online retailer......RITEK from newegg or rima.

  13. Ritek is ridiculously expensive considering you're buying in bulk and you still have to shell out about $130 for those 4x 100 spindles.

You have got to be kidding me. $1.30 per disc is very cheap, and it's one of the best discs made to top it off.

  15. No dude that's pretty expensive. If you can find a brand that exclusively uses Ricohjpn you can get 4x +r discs a lot cheaper. Their -rs have really come down in price lately though.

You can grab Ritek DVD-R 4x for $99 for 100.

I've never seen RICOHJPN cheaper than $1 each, and that's only been within past weeks with the Christmas sales.

Some of my first discs were $5-9 each ... and that was before any store started to carry discs. You had to buy in bulk to get a deal like $5 per disc for Apple (MCC). The Pioneer (PVC) discs were $9 each in jewel cases. And Princo was an amazing $3 each for 1x a few months later... an OUTSTANDING deal on media. The RITEKG01 were $4 each, and really sucked hard, worse than Princo.

At that time DVD+R was not around yet.

Maybe now you see where I'm coming from. You must be pretty new to DVD burning.

  18. Ritek or Ridata are the same thing they have the same code so i don't see any difference and don't know why Ritek just put a plastic around for Ridata branding. This is so unsmart. Sure you get Ridata, wow, what a big brand, but... can anyone tell the difference, NO. Cheap disc= trouble. we burn thousands discs for our clients every month. Best disc that last longer than 6 months and is not expensive that is good enough. check out supermediastore.com or ekatomi.com, they seem to have some good deal. but make sure you check the code on the disc, don't get cheated.

one quick catch, "how long will a 40 cents dvd disc last?, 1 month?"
