  1. I am not really sure what dvd burner I want. I know I want a fast one but not to expensive. I will mainly be backing up PS2 games so I think I need dvd-rw or dvd-r/w that is where I get confused. I will also be doing other things other than ps2 games. Also can I use a dvd+- rw or dvd+-r/w?

I do not know the difference between rw and r/w

  2. zamac_man,

R/W and RW are the same. Just different ways of shortening ReWriteable.

4x burners do DVDs in about 15 minutes. Do you really want one that's faster - I believe there's quite a price difference.

There is a huge section on this site where you can search for a DVD burner and find out reviews and specifications of it. I'd suggest making a shortlist of drives you think might be good and finding out about them on this site. Just a pointer - Pioneer drives seem to be the best and most reliable there are just now.

    Happy hunting!

  6. The best media for PS2 backup is dvd-r. I can't tell you what burner you should buy, but I have a Pioneer A04 (two years old) and it still works great for backing up PS2 games. Also when you have a dvd-burner don't use the maximum speed for backing up.

  7. Lite-On make nice drives too, but as Pharlap says, they can be a little more fussy about what you feed them than the Pioneers. However, a friend has the 4x +/- RW and hasn't had any problems/coasters yet.

Just think, in a few years you'll buy a perfectly stable, ultra-fast DVD +/- RW for £30 and it'll take any cheap old media you throw at it. Remember the days when CD-RW was a bit dodgy? But then, something new will be out and about within those few years, and we'll all want to upgrade again!

I've got a Pioneer 104 and 106 and had no problems with either. Pioneer 106's are reasonably cheap now so I would recommend that.
    If in doubt, Google it.

The actual model is DVR-106D. It is advertised as the 106 or A06. These are exactly the same drive !
All that differs is the software you get with them but the drive itself is the same drive. Its like the 106 is the OEM version so you only get staple software.
    If in doubt, Google it.
