  3. my next question is this then. Is there such a thing as a DVD Rom that reads + R ( incase I get DVD that are + R ) I know the burners can burn + and - depends on type and modle.

I just got one MSI DVD reader but only reads dvd - .. I have yet to open it incase I have to return it. Should i not worry about it since most DVD u rent from blockbuster are -r ?

Er no the dvd's you rent from blockbuster are pressed and are neither + or - format.....
Should also add copying rented dvd's is illegal.... Unless you are buying from blockbuster then its Ok...

You will also not be able to copy any of these disk on the fly as they have to be decripted and most likly compressed to fit a dvd-or+ disk etc.

  5. So if i buya DVD and want to burn on the fly do i need a dvd player that reads + or -.. what format are most dvd 's?

  6. What determines whether your DVD is + or - is what blank media you buy and burn to. As stated original DVD's are neither + or -, only burned ones. There is not much to choose between the + or - format compatability wise, the main difference is that the - format is slightly cheaper at the moment. I take it you have a duel format burner so you can choose whether to burn to + or -. Try one of the formats and see if it will play in your DVD player, the likelyhood is that both the + and - formats will work ok. And as stated with the vast majority of original DVD's you can not do a simple 1-1 copy as you can with CD's. 2 reasons for this, the first is that the disc needs to be decrypted. The second is that original discs have twice the capacity as burnable media due to the fact that they have 2 data layers. So the movie could well be too large to fit on 1 burnable disc, in this case it needs encoding with a lower bitrate to reduce the filesize to allow it to fit.

  7. I think that the original poster would do well to perform a search and to read the guides. Most if not all these questions could be found and answered in less than an hour.

Yup, look up "What is DVDR" in the blue section on the left side, then read the DVD to DVDR guides

  11. My question was perhapse not phrase it correctly.

I wanted to burn on the fly like I said but I have yet to buy a burner and a reader. So I wanted to know if there was a dvd READER ROM that read both DVD +/-. I bought one and dvd reader for my pc and it only read DVD -. I wanted to know if there is a reader for my pc that would read both +/-. Since I never know when I would need to read media that was copy or burn on DVD + or -. I wanted flexiablity.

    P.S

The link I was asked to read speaks of DVD burners. That was not my question. I know I should buy a dvd burner that supports at least DVD -/+.
