Does anyone know how I can burn a large SVCD file to two regular CD? The SVCD file is over 1000 MB and a CD can only hold 650 MB, therefore, I need two CDs.

How can I do this? I'm using the latest version of Nero. Can this be done?

    Thanks for you help.

Personally, I question the need to have such high a bitrate as to require 2 CD's, even for SVCD... but that's another tale...

    Anyway, what I'd suggest:

    1. Try splitting it, with TMPGEnc or maybe another utility. It may lose synch, if it does use bbMPEG's muxer "audio offset" to re-align the streams.

    2. Try 700MB CD's instead. (HINT: for SVCD's, they actually hold ~800MB of data, no error checking needed for audio or video CD's, must burn in that mode).

    3. DON'T use NERO for SVCD, VCD. Instead, use a VCDImager frontend (like TSCV) and burn the bin/cue image with a compatable burner software (NOT NERO!). Plus you don't have to worry about selecting the right way to burn the disc, since the format is on there (just remember to select MODE-2).

    4. In the future, if you can help it, do 2 separate encodes when you know the calculated size will be over 1 CD. Use "Source Range" to encode the first half as one file, and the second half as another. This will make it so you only have to worry about synch one time, not again when you demux. MUCH easier!

I know this is a long, confusing list. Probably there's someone out there with an easier way.

  3. Hi there.
Very nice answer homerpez. I agree i most of what you are saying.
I just dont understand why you wouldnt use 2 cd's for a svcd movie. I use max one hour movie on a 80 min disc.
I would like to see you put 120 min (wich is the lenght of many movies today). But maby you know something i dont, so pleas open up
And to amanda (nice name by the way.. Has same name as the biggest IT flop in Denmark hehe). Check EDIT in the HOW TO.

  4. homerpez:

Why one shouldn't use Nero as an authoring tool for VCD/SVCD? I have made many VCDs and SVCDs and every one has worked fine in my desktop DVD player. There is no problem in fitting ~800Mbytes in a 80 min disc.

  5. Nero is "okay" if all you are making is a simple single or multitrack S/VCD.

For anything else, it is absolutely woeful. Nero's still menu implementation is poor and is not even correctly authored.
