  1. hi,

can someone tell me what the best/most compatible media is for making vcd's. My dvd player(LG 3200) is very particular about vcd's and vcd's made with octran or imitation cd-r are not accepted. Have not tried any other media as yet. Any help would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  2. My Sony is a bugger with CD-R's too, and I use:

    Princo (Type 8 dye)
Data-write White (same as the Princo)

    CD-RW's.

They're the only ones that work for me, but I understand (ie have not tried for myself) that some Paradox also work.

  5. Datasafe and Datawrite are not (usually) the same disc.

I have used those discs that you mention before now and they didn't work for me, but that doesn't mean they won't work alright for you. Your player has a different pickup in it than mine does, so your mileage may vary.

Well, if you looked at the list, it says that VCD are not accepted. So, it's not the disc, it;s your player. It just won't play a VCD.

  8. Taiyo Yuden will work in just about any machine, so long as the machine actually has a VCD decoder. I have never seen a TY disc fail in a machine that supports CD, VCD or SVCD.

Not all DVD players have VCD capability; some manufacturers are so cheap they won't pay the $1/machine royalty to Phillips to include VCD capabilitiy.

The absolute best CD-R brand is Taiyo Yuden. Most on-line sites that sell DVD recordables also sell Taiyo Yuden CD-R media.

As far as retail stores go ... FUJI has a history of using Taiyo Yuden CD-R discs but ONLY if the package says MADE IN JAPAN.

In fact just about any retail brand CD-R that says MADE IN JAPAN should be good.

However beware ... most say MADE IN TAIWAN and sometimes finding CD-R media that says MADE IN JAPAN is actually very difficult.

But of course the easy thing is to buy the Taiyo Yuden CD-R discs on-line. Not very expensive either if you ask me.

They also make the best DVD-R media too.

  10. Ditto what FulciLives said!

You can get smaller quantities of Taiyo Yuden from allmediaoutlet.com, if you prefer to keep your purchase under the 100-disc size.

Hmmm... Sony owners beware - my Picot PQ2 will play them, but my 535 will not.
