  1. what's the lowest bitrate u can use on dvd, coz im trying to fit as many 45mins eshort films on one dvdr?

    depends on what kind of quality you want to keep. you go too low and it will look like dog doodoo. also depends on the resolution your going to use. full or half. just as a 'general' answer. i would say keep it above 2000kb/s

  3. Full D1 (720 * 480 NTSC), keep it above 3500kbits
    1/2 D1 (352 * 480 NTSC) Keep it above 1750 Kbits
    Want to go lower, use Mpeg1 (352*288, CBR) down to 1000Kbits (will look poor though)

    You can go lower still, but quality just gets worse.

    now if I use that bitrate how many minutes can i squeeze on a dvd? oh, but i want to retain dvd quality and have menus and all that other jazz.

    If you look into scripting with AviSynth to create a file then frameserve it, you can get Mb's off. Even with a low Bitrate you get good results. Like what was said, 2000 is about right. If you learn well the results are great.
