I have a 25 fps PAL video that I want to put on DVD. I can either go to 23.97 fps and run pulldown on it or go up to full 29.97 fps. I heard the former can result in less compatibility on settop DVD players and the latter can result in reduced quality.
1. Does anyone know how much less compatible my DVD will be if the movie is really 23.97 fps?
2. How much of a reduction in quality can I expect with 25->29.97 vs. 25->23.97?
Thanks in advance!

If you want to do a proper PAL to NTSC conversion that will playback smoothly you MUST go to 23.976fps and apply pulldown. For help take a look here..
Don't worry about compatibility, 23.976fps with 3:2 pulldown is part of the DVD standard. Its with mpeg-1 at 23.97fps (VCD) that a few players seem to have difficulty with, despite it again being part of the standard.
