    Hi,

Anybody tried these? Do they burn at 4X with 500AX?
    Thanks!

  2. Yes.. I've tried BeAll 4x media on my Sony DRU500AX and it works pretty good. Burns at 4x with no issues, unlike the Ritek G04s I have. But this got fixed (I think) with the latest firmware.

  3. Howdy Gregg,

I have used the BeAlls (2x and 4x) on my DRU500a without any problems. So far, I have a <1% burn failure rate with BeAll media. My oldest BeAll is around 7 months old, and it still tests fine.

With Ritek, I have a 5% burn failure rate, and I have media over a year old (labeled even) that tests fine.

With Princo, I have a 20% burn failure rate, and have had media fail in less that a month (without label, and written on with CD markers). I do not buy Princo's anymore.

When I first bought my drive, I purchased some Lead Data (dvd-rw) discs. Out of ten discs, 4 would not burn properly. The remaining six failed within two additional burnings.

I bought a 25 pack of the BeAll 1x-4x Certified DVD-R discs from MERITLINE.COM and I've had a few problems with READ ERRORS.

When I back up a DVD I usually use DVD2ONE and set the total size to 4300MB which is a good 100MB+ less than the MAX a DVD can hold.

No matter how the disc is made (I do some homemade captures using TMPGEnc DVD Author as well as DVD2ONE back-ups and even sometimes DVDShrink) I always make an ISO IMAGE file with ImgTool Classic and then burn to DVD using DVD DECRYPTER.

Anyways ... of the discs that were close to the MAX capacity ... some of them had NO READ ERRORS when I used DVDInfoPro to test them.

However once I got about half way through my 25 pack I started having some that did have READ ERRORS and the READ ERRORS almost always started right around the 4.2GB mark.

The discs seem to burn without any problems at 4.1x to 4.2x on my fairly brand new NEC ND-1300A so I don't know why some of the discs have outer edge READ ERRORS while some have no READ ERRORS.

I've decided to try and keep my DVD content just under 4.2GB and when I use DVD2ONE I've been using 4200MB as my target now to be safe.

So far I've burned about 5 in a row now that were all under 4.2GB and none have had read errors except my back-up of MATRIX RELOADED which was 4.19GB and had one white block and one read block at the very very end of the READ ERROR test. The DVD seems to play back fine though and I even tested it by playing it back (the very end of it) several times on a couple different DVD players to make sure. I backed up MATRIX RELOADED using a 3-pass VBR in CCE and then authored it with TMPGEnc DVD Author which made the exact final size a little harder to calculate than when using DVD2ONE which is why it ended up so close to 4.2GB. Anyways the image quality was better than the DVD2ONE backup I had attempted first which I chock up to it being such a LONG film for decent transcoder performance.

    Anyways ...

From now on I'm not going to get these BeAll discs again.

In the future I will either buy the RITEK G04 DVD-R discs or if I have the money Taiyo-Yuden 4x DVD-R discs which are now surprisingly being sold at a decent price on RIMA.COM

It didn't seem that long ago that people were raving about how great the BeAll DVD-R discs were. Right after I ordered my 25 pack I started reading some comlpaints about them on different posts here and there. It now seems that they aren't being as well made as they once were which is a shame.

    Hi,

Thank you for the feedback. I already ordered some printable of these. I'll give them a try and I'll let you know how they burn.

    Enjoy!

I suggest you try using something like DVDInfoPro to run a READ ERROR TEST on any DVD that you burn.

JUST because the burning proceedure seems to go error free doesn't mean your newly created DVD is free of READ ERRORS.

  7. I would not recommend the BeAll brand. They don't work at all on my NEC ND-1300A, and with the new firmware hack, it works, but I get a very high error rate. Maybe it'll work fine with the Sony, but why take the chance? I tried posting a comment on Meritline about this for the BeAll media more than a month ago, but I believe that Meritline does not post negative comments on their media. They post only the positive ones. I bought the BeAll media based on the positive reviews posted on their site, but now I know can't trust their posted reviews. Anyway, I would stick with Ritek brand. It doesn't cost much more and will work great with your Sony.

Is this true when you use the recorders verify method to check the dvd after it burns it? I use RecordMaxNow, record then verify every round and normally get succesful burns?

Any conclusion on the Beall Printables? There arent readily available printables (to center hub) in Toronto yet and Ive wanted to buy these for a while?

    thanks all
