RAM

  1. Just ordered a DELL. I didnt get the RAM upgrade because they charge too much. I'll do it myself.
    This is what I've got:

    Pentium(r) 4 Processor at 2.60GHz w/800MHz front side bus/ HT Technology
Memory: 256MB Dual Channel DDR SDRAM at 400MHz (2x128M)

I'm not sure exactly what I need to buy. I want another 256...or maybe even 512.
I'm guessing I need to find 400mhz ram??
Whats the best I could use that is compatible with this PC ?

You'd be looking for PC3200 DDR memory for 400MHZ, probably non EEC. Unless you use matched memory, the dual channel won't do much, but there is no great gain with dual channel anyway. I would buy one stick of 256MB ram. If you were able to find exactly what brand, model, serial # that is in the computer, you might be able to match it exactly, but I doubt it. Not all memory modules have all the info printed on them. If you go with the 256MB, you can always add more later. 512MB is enough for most any application. Any good brand will do you, Mushkin, Crucial, Samsung, Kingston. Check these companies for info, they usually have what memory is needed for your brand and type of computer at their website.
