  1. Can anyone please give a rundown on projectors (or post a good website).
The only thing that I know about projectors is that they cost A LOT of money, but I think we all dream of having a massive cinema like screen in our homes one day.

So, what should we look for when buying a projector? Whats a good and trusted brand in projectors? What does LCD etc mean in terms of projectors? Any other basic information appreciated...

  2. NO NO NO... Don't buy a digital projector! Get a CRT! Used they're around $1000 for an excellent picture.

  4. Take a serious look at the Infocus X1. My brother just got one and I have been blown away by the quality. He is projecting a 96" image on a white wall (!) and the quality is as good or better than a movie theater. I couldn't believe my eyes, these things have come a LONG WAY in just a few years. Oh and did I mention it was $949 brand new!!!!!!!!!

I've been using a Sony VPL-HS2 projector for about a year. 5' X 8' screen. I love it. 600x800 resolution, I couldn't afford the higher res model, about $1000 more. Get a good surround sound sytem to go with the projector. There are two main types LCD and DVP, both have advantages. Lamp cost and life are something to look at. Lamps are several hundred dollars, but my original is still going strong after 300 hrs. You need a good quality screen to get the brightest and best contrast picture. Make sure the projector is home theater capable, you don't want a computer type projector. I spent a couple of months to research my setup and I have never regretted it for a minute.
