  1. I purchased a DVDram/-R burner last week and used TMPenc to convert and author DIVX onto Verbatim DataLife Plus 2X DVD-R.

I tried playing the disc on my Schneider 1003 and it won't read it.
It plays on my PC but with no sound.
It plays on a PS2 with sound and picture until near the end where it can no longer read it.
It plays on a friend's PACIFIC 1002 DVD player fine again until near the end where it freezes.

Do I need to buy better discs??

  3. I've had nothing but compatibility problems with Verbatim DVD-Rs on my Pioneer DVD333....They play fine on my Norcent DP300....Ny burner is a Pioneer A05....

I like Fuji, Maxell, TDK and Sony the best...But I've had good luck with Pine, Memorex (as long as you leave 200 megs free), LeadData (E3Workds)...

Vernatim DVD-RWs work great but Verbatim DVD-R's are not liked by my Pioneer DV333....

  4. Thanks Good to know I'm not the only one with problems with this disc. I will try a few of the other suggested discs before I buy a new DVD player. Would it make a difference if the discs are 2x or 4x as to whether my DVD player would read them?

From when I used them as long as they are actual Verbatium disc you should be fine, if however they are CMCs that they rebranded to Verbatium then that would be you problem. I suggest trying Maxell or TDK disc and see how they work out for you.

On a side note, I have no idea what divx file you had and don't want to know, but the results couldn't have looked that good on DVD. I've never seen a good Divx to DVD conversion.

  6. Not sure if the'yre rebranded but they were extremely cheap!

I was quite surprised myself at the quality of the conversion but I assure you it was flawless on the PS2 until it stopped reading near the end of course. Both sound and picture.

Thanks for the tip I'll try TDK and report back.

Its the near the end thing that might be a tip off. You can download several different utilities to tell you who really made the disc from the tools section.

CMC disc are well known to crap out near the end.

  8. Thanks again, I'll give that a try also.

Is it better to buy 4x discs rather than 2x though?
