I checked on the left for software dvd players that play dvd-ram and could not get anything beneficial.
Here is my issue:
I purchased a E30 panny for use in converting home movies to DVD-R. What I have done in the past is to "waste" a DVD-R to capture the raw data and then put that in the computer. Rip it down, use TMPGENC Author to author it over, and then burn it out with my DVR-105. I could save 1 dvd-r disc by using dvd-ram and then put that into my software player, author it, etc.
I know pretty much zip about dvd-ram outside of the it gives you vro. files, it comes in cartridged and uncartridged discs, sing/dual sided discs, etc.
I used dvdinfo for my burner and player and it says that it does not play dvd-ram, but as a "gotta make it work" guy, I wanted to see what other people do in this scenario.
Are there CHEAP software dvd-ram,dvd-rom,dvdr, players available. I even heard of a dvd-ram reader that plugs into the computer that goes for about $40.
A guy I know is going to give me an uncartridged disc that I can try in my software dvd player just to prove/disprove what dvdinfo says about the drive.
Another question is do any people out in the forum use a similar process when using their dvd recorder?

DVD-RAM compatability = EXTREEEEMELY low...most of the time you're not going to be able to read it except for on the drive you used to burn it. Also,
DVD-RAM burn speed = very slow. I have an LG-GSA 4040b drive, it says it burns at 3x, but it also needs time to 'verify' everything it wrote (which DVD-RAM automatically does), so in reality its more like 1.5x. And
DVD-RAM prices = high. Each disk is anywhere from 10-20 dollars.-Yar, matey!- -
so, I can pretty much count on "wasting" a dvd-r for the capture. Crap! I was hoping to be able to save some money that way. Since dvd-ram is "re-writable", I was hoping to be able to pull in a video and keep erasing the same dvd-ram instead of wasting the dvd-r.
Wish the panny could do rw. That would take care of the issue. -
??Wish the panny could do rw??
My cheap old Player from the Supermarket plays DVD-RW's and DVD+RW's?.
Mind it was designed in Germany, but built in China!. -

Once you copy these VRO files to your hard disk. then you can convert and edit them to the DVD-Video format and reburn them on the DVD-R discs. See, for example, the following quote from a thread in the DVD Recorders Forum:
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=178997
I have an E50 and in my PC a Toshiba SD1217 (or something like that), anyway..its a DVD-Rom drive that can also read DVD-Ram, you have to use non-cartridge or take em out of cartridge first though.
What i do is put in Ram disc, copy .VRO file to hard drive and then rename it .VOB, you are then free to de-multiplex, use it in DVD authoring software, etc. -
synergy,
thanks for posting that information. i knew that there were dvd players our there, but really couldnt find where to get one. Thanks again!!!!! I will be doing this as a side business and I'll recoop the "lost" money for the dvd-ram player (its $30'ish with free shipping) in about 2 weeks! Awesome!!!!!
