  1. What's the deal on this gentleman named Trai Forrester “Mr. DVD” ?

HE charges $250 to enter and download from his site

The software he advocates on his site is called DVD Studio Pro 2. I think that is a MAC based program, right ?

    I need to make a DVD-9. Should I check into Trai's hotel ?

Exactly...what is the deal. There is more knowledge here than most can grasp in a life time .............and it's $250 cheaper.

ok -- i had to go check it out and what he is selling is a training dvd for dvd studio pro 2 .. which is mac based yes ..

if you need to make a dvd 9 , you will need first some cash ... if you want to do this for a comercial dvd that you want to sell .. let me know ..

if you want to make a 1 off -- you really can't ..

Why. Do you have a Mac, dvd studio pro 2 and need proffessional level help for your DVD authoring? If so you may want to consider this (and you have $250 to spend). However, seems like an awful lot of money for a web forum.

If you want to make a DVD-9, TmpGenc DVD author and DVD-Lab will allow you author a DVD up to 9 Gigs in size. Not sure if they will let you specify the layer break position though.

  5. I am working with a client who wants to replicate 1000 units.

He has about 140 minutes of video. I am doing the 5.1 surround audio mix and I will author the DVD.

I have done several audio CD's for this artist, this is the first DVD. We are under the impression that we won't be able to fit 140 minutes of video and audio on a DVD-5 (at good quality).

I was looking at purchasing ReelDVD - but it won't do Dual-Layer (DVD-9). The more I find out about DVD-9, it seems like another world from DVD-5 !

Maybe we should just cram it all on a 5. I think he is paranoid about video quality.

It would be possible, if you don't encode the 5.1 at too high of a bitrate. At 480kbps, a 5.1 will be about 500MB, which will leave 4,200,000,000 bytes left for video. If it is just a music video, then you could probably get pretty good video for the 140 minutes, but it would be close. Everything depends on the original video.

  7. Am I correct in assuming that most folks (on the level of replicating 1000 units) do not mess with DVD-9 ?
