Rip DVDs on G4 733 and Burn to DVD-R G

I dont have a superdrive yet, but I tried your method of saving a disk image. I tried a 500 mb file and it said "There is not enough space on this volume to complete this operation" It did go to toast but it had 0 bytes. Also I have a 80 gig harddrive.

I also don't understand what you mean by "In dvd extractor go to file>save image point it to the dvd in your drive. Then it will ask you where to save the image, point it to your harddrive, save image."

I dont exactly understand the term point either. I tried all different ways of doing this and nothing worked.

Any suggestions?

As others have mentioned, most newer DVDs come as dual-layered now, so a simple copy won't work.

Although the process outlined above is on a Mac for a direct disc copy, is it possible to extract the parts of the vobs you want using a program like SmartRipper or similar, and then author a new DVD? I know when I rip for VCD, I dont let SmartRipper get the DTS soundtrack, alternate language tracks, subtitles, PCM soundtrack, etc ... which makes the vob copied to my HD a somewhat smaller file. Doing this may get some films under the 4.7gb barrier.

A ripped DVD takes about 3 to 4 GB without multilangual, subtitles, menu's, extra's , etc.

Only a very long movie wouldn't fit on a 4.7 GB DVD

Very true...

However, a DVD without the extra soundtracks and subtitles and all the other nice bits is like...a curry without enough spice. All the important bits are there but it just isn't as tasty.

If you're copying DVDs to get all the neat extras, just buy the freaking DVD. I mainly copy DVDs because my obsession with movies is much larger than my budget. When things like bonus material, Czech subtitles and bizarre thirty-five year old films from the premiere party are important to me, I buy the DVD. When I just wanna see Bruce Willis kick ass just one more time, I'll copy the darn disc.

As for porn, the possibilities of piracy are endless. I have yet to come across and encrypted porn title. And they have multiangle shots, a lot of them!!!
