I want to convert a Pal DVD 16:9 movie to NTSC DVD 4:3. I want to view it on a 4:3 tv. Should I cut px from the left & right or just resize to 720x480? And if the crop option is the best. how many px???

hi yysie,
If it's just a PAL to NTSC conversion that you are really after, then why
don't you just continue it as a PAL, IF YOUR DVD player supports both
format.
I have an Apex AD-1500, and I can encode w/ PAL or NTSC, or take a PAL
encoded clip, burn it as PAL, and play it in the AD-1500 w/ no problems on
my 13" NTSC tv set.
Just a thought

Well if you just resize from 720x576 to 720x480 then you will have a 16x9 NTSC video. If you want to make it 4:3 widescreen for NTSC then resize from 720x576 to 720x360 then add a 60 pixel border on the top and the bottom. That can be done using an AviSynth AVS script.Originally Posted by yysie

I don't want to make a 4:3 widescreen NTSC from a 16:9 PAL, but I want to make a Fullscreen 4:3 NTSC from a 16:9 PAL Ssource...

Well unless the original has an aspect ratio of 1.33:1 then you CAN'T make it FULL SCREEN non-anamorphic UNLESS you either stretch the image or chop off image area from the sides etc.Originally Posted by yysie
Either way this is obviously something that shouldn't be done as it ruins the aspect ratio of the original which just doesn't make any sense. Watching a stretched image makes no sense and trimming the sides to make it fit form top to bottom is known as pan & scan and this is something cinema/movie lovers have been fighting against for years now.
So don't expect any help from me or too many other people.
