Hi,
Very new to the DVD writing world. Settled on an HP300i
I know that the HP300i defaults to book type of DVD-ROM, when writing to DVD+R. Does it do that when it writes to DVD+RW? If not, are there any easier or better choices that Bitsetter to use? Will Nero let you choose the Book Type for both types of media?
Just installed the drive last night. I saw that no region has been selected yet and that I'm allowed 5 changes. I see plenty of work around's for this out there. I don't ever expect to play a disc from another region, but do I have to choose a region before the burner will write to media?
About firmware... If everything works well with my system, is there ever a need to upgrade the firmware? I noticed that I have 1.25, and a newer FW is out: 1.29. I thought all HP writers search for new FW and load it to the writer automatically? Why do you think mine did not do this when I installed it?

There is a HP bitsetting utility here
Probably works with RecordNow only?
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwareDownloadIndex.jhtml?reg=&cc=us&softitem=dv-13024-...etype=software
The region free firmwares here:
http://etna.rpc1.org/nec/index.html
Be careful with flashing!
Could you please confirm that your DVD+R discs are actually burned as DVD-ROM by default. Get DVD Info PRO (great program)
I also would like to know if DVDBitsetter and DVDInfo 's bitsetter utility work with your drive.
Please check back later or PM me -
Thanks for the bitsetting link. I'm hoping that I don't have to use it. I'll know in a couple days whether my writer is readable with my player. After everything is working OK, I'll try to see if my drive works with those utilites.
Since I have never watched a movie from a region outside the U.S., I don't understand the need for me to use a region free program.
Right now I'm concerned about the basics.
I've also discovered a possible conflict with this writer's software and XP.
ISSUE: After installing the DVD or CD-Writer software, the error "0x00000500 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" is displayed while re-starting the computer. The error may occur in Microsoft® Windows XP and Windows 2000.
CAUSE: A conflict between the Veritas DLA software and the driver AFS2K.SYS installed on some computers causes this error.
Anyone know anything about this?
