  1. Well, I'm back...

This time I have got the 200 working (Fine) then I transfered a load of files over to the 200... fine...

Then I thought, what the hell.... reinstall windows to make it run faster.

I am using a 40 gig as the master and the 200 as a slave...

Well now when i boot up windows i look under My Computer... and look... no 200 gig hard drive, but when I go through the tools E.g. Admin tools, Computer Management then Disk Management, it shows up in there saying "Unreadable" I have put about 20 gigs on there which I can't afford to lose, what can I do to get it working??

    Please help

    Thanks guys

  5. Maybe you made it a dynamic disk before, if so you have to right click on in in disk manager and re-initialize it, or something like that.

Go to windows update , open IE, tools/Windows Update

Yeh I made it dynamic, I right clicked to make it "simple" but it said that i was going to lose all my data...

  7. There should be an option to re-initilaize it

I had this happen once a long time ago, since then I don't use the dynamic disk option.

  8. Install Service pack 1 then try again. I know it's there cause when it happened to me I got it back with no data loss

  9. Is this right, it's saying service pack 1 is nearly 2mb?

  10. Thats just the installer, once you run that it will DL files it need, which will be close to 100MB

  11. Just so other will know,
xp doesnt like hd's above 137 gigabytes
    you must partition it somehow,
SP1 was suppose to fix that, but Bill
doesnt give that out anymore, only SP1a
which changes to media player 9,
which isnt too good for lots odf divx files/mpgs

Don't know why my XP Pro has handle a Maxtor 160 gig, running a 160 gig NTFS partition. Been 18 months and still going strong.

Have you ever filled the drive? I thought the same with a Western Digital 180 gig hard drive until I attempeted to pass the 137 gig barrier. It always performed fine until I passed the 137 gig barrier. But it was a no go for me when it reached the 137 operating system limit.

Does the operating system limit hold true for external firewire enclosed hard drives? I haven't pulled the drive yet in order to install it into an external firewire enclosure. Opinions?

  14. Not the best reference because I haven't thought about it for a while but this link addresses the problem:

May not be current but does a external firewire enclosure have any effect on this issue?

Windows has no problems with partiions that size. some bioses, however, do.

windows can only read it as 163 max unless you'er using a controller card. if you're using a controller card you have to install the drivers for it.

    quick question

did you install xp operating system on your second hard even though
you already had xp on your first?

    if you did that

    then that is your problem

your second hard drive should have been a ntsc data drive, not 2 xp's operating system drives

For the hell of it, is this still the firewire or USB2 drive? External? In Control Panel, Settings, did you check Removeable Drive. I have had Syquest and others, as well as trays, not show till I checked "Removeable"
Win 98, so maybe not germane.

No, I used the 40 by formatting and then re-installing windows xp pro, I did not try and go over with and having 2 windows xp pro's.

I've fixed it now, all i needed to do is install Service Pack 1.
People are saying that it wont recognise anything over a 120, but that's wrong it's coming up as a 196G/B, so it's working fine..

And to answer some more questions it's an internal hard drive.
