  1. Hello. Newbie here... I burned my first DVD yesterday. It plays fine for the first 30 minutes or so, but after that it locks up - and then plays for about 10 seconds - and then it locks up again. It repeats this process over and over.

I converted the .avi file to .mpg using TMPGEnc and then burned the file to DVD+RW using Sonic's MyDVD.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

  2. You say it locks up?

Please tell us a little more...

What are you playing it in?
Does it do this in other players?
Does it lock up at the same point every time?
Is this the only DVD that does this?
Just what is this reality thing anyway?

I'm playing it in a Sony DVP-S530D. I have had it for over 3 years now and have never had a problem with it playing store bought DVD's.

Yes, it does the same thing when I play it on my computer.

It does lock up at the same point everytime.

So far, it is the only DVD that does this. I have only burned 2, though. The other one played fine but those files were already .mpg format so I didn't have to use TMPGEnc. Also, I don't know if this helps or not, they were much shorter in length.

    Thanks!

  5. Here is an idea,

Rip the DVD to your hard drive, get a copy of VirtualDub that reads MPEG, and have it check the VOBs for errors.
    Maybe it can find something.

What settings did you use to encode the video? Did you use variable bitrate with a maximum bit rate too high? The total bitrate of both audio and video is restricted and if you exceed it the player will "lock-up" trying to catch up reading more data than it can in a given time frame.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
