I've been scanning the pages of this forum for my problem and haven't found an answer. I'm going to be very detailed so you will understand what happened. First of all, I'm fairly new at using a computer (8 months), and I realize that the answer may be obvious to some of you.
I have an Asus V8420 deluxe video card w/S video in & out. I also have a 1394 input for direct DV connection. I was already having enough problems trying to switch between the 1394 & the S-video inputs, but I somehow, did manage to accomplish this.
One day, I was experimenting with the S-video output of my 'DISH' receiver (PVR) to see if I could record into the computer. What I discovered was that I could see, on the computer screen, the 'Live' program was in color. Then I tried to view an already recorded program (Sanford & Son) and I soon discovered that all the programs that are recorded on the PVR would come out in B&W and the 'Live' programs would be in color. I kept switching between 'Live' and 'Recorded' shows and was wondering why that occured. Well, to make a long story short, I don't get any color through the S-video input at all anymore. I've tried to contact Asus, but they ignored me for 6 months and when they finally answered, they pretended that they didn't understand english and gave me a NON toll free telephone number to call. (I haven't called because I'm tired of waiting 45 minutes to actually talk to someone with long distance charges.) I don't even know how to get a hold of Microsoft. (I think I'm beginning to hate them). The one article I did find here, mentioned that switching to PAL could cause that, but I don't know how that could have happened.
Can anyone tell me how I can get my COLOR back? I know that I'll eventually end up getting one of those DAC-100s or something like that because it would be easier doing everything thru 1394. I wasted a lot of money on that video card, I would like to get some use out of it besides 'gaming'. (I actually bought it for video purposes.)
Thank you in advance.....PS: I'm unemployed right now, so the DAC-100 is going to have to wait for a while.

You mean this really hasn't happened to anyone else? I didn't even try to record anything. All I know is that I was switching between watching live broadcast and the recorded stuff, just merely watching. The live stuff would be in color and the recorded stuff would be in B&W. The 'DISH' PVR I was taking the S-video signal from was probably the 1st model available. (model : TUPVR501RU) I'm sure it was encoded with some kind of macrovision or something, but it didn't make sense, to me, that I could get the 'Live' transmission in color and the 'Recorded' shows in B&W.
(I could already see that, if I wanted, I could just record a 'Live' show and edit the commercials out later.) So the idea of encoding only the recorded shows only, didn't make a lot of sense to me. I find it hard to believe that I'm the only person this has happened to. I should also point out, in case you're wondering, I do still get color through my 1394 input. (I'm trying to remember everything that happened but it's been a while. I think I had also just downloaded the free 30 day trial of Uleads MovieFactory and when I lost the color to my S-video input, I also lost the color to my web-cam(USB)& Sony Dig8 thru 1394. but when my 30 day trial of Ulead ended, I erased everything out of the computer and I got the color back on my web-cam & 1394 but it never came back to my S-video input. So go figure.) Yes, I've already asked Ulead and they don't know what I'm talking about.
