  1. I have a Canopus AVDC 100 and am capturing with Ulead moviefactory. I am getting type 1 DV AVI but I want type 2. How do I get type 2?

    Thanks

  2. What would be the benefite of 1 over the other?
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

  3. Mainconcept Mpeg encoder tells me it cannot use DV AVI type 1. It requests type 2.

There's a converter in the tools section to the left. Type 1 DV interleaves the audio and video, while Type 2 doesn't.

  5. Use any of these programs to capture in Type 2 DV-AVI:

DVIO Digital Video Input Output - Freeware, no preview.

Scenalyzer LIVE - Shareware, but it's the best.

    WinDV - Freeware w/preview.

MS DirectX DVApp can capture both type-1 and type-2, AVI-IO captures to type-2 as well as VDub.VDub needs a separate Audio In additionally.
If neither or VDub work with your FW card: start DVApp.If you can see the preview.stop DVApp, start AVI-IO and select your DV device. After that you can either capture with AVI-IO or VDub.

No, every version since 1.3 can do this. But you need to proceed as described above. The trick is, to force the default capturing device to DV (VDub uses AFAIK the default).AVI-IO can select the input device and sets the default.
So after usinf AVI-io, VDub is able to capture from DV (though no audio: therefore a second device for audio in).Sometimes the audio is not in sync. But this is a non-progressive out-of-sync.Playing a littel with the audio delay, you can sync the footage quite easily.

I mean in the sense of having to use a separate audio cable and then playing with the sync. I'm used to hitting the capture button on my software and the Canopus will take care of the rest.

IC.The separate audio is setup once, and if the dropped frame rate is not too high, there is no prblem with the sync.I prefer the DVApp capture anyway. but I have sometimes severe issues with bad frames.VDup handles bad frames much better. So we have a tradeoff with flexibilty and usability.
