  1. I am debating on whether to buy this card...my questions are:

    1) It connects through firewire, right? So, since I usually hook up my mini-DV camcorder through my Sound Blaster Audigy's firewire port to capture from it...I assume I can hook up the Canopus through the Audigy's firewire port, yes?

    2) Given that is true, do I then hook up my VCR to the Canopus?

    3) What resolutions does the Canopus it capture at?

Thanks for helping me with this...this external Canopus thing is confusing me...

  2. 1) Yes, ADVC-100 works with the Audigy...

    2) Yes, ADVC-100 will allow you to capture video from your VCR (or pretty much anything else that pumps out video via RCA/composite or S-Video.

    3) ADVC-100 captures video pretty much exclusively at 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL). Some editors like Pinnacle Studio allow you to capture at lower resolutions, but it's software dependant at that point...

  3. Ivan,

Thanks...so, I don't have to have another capture card installed as long as I have a firewire port? I want to make this clear...thanks for your patience.

  4. An OHCI FireWire port (you already have this) and the ADVC-100 (which is the capture card) are all that you need as far as hardware goes...

You still however need to choose an app to capture/edit with...

  5. Ivan, you rock! Thanks. As far as an app goes, I have Premiere 6.5, Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2 and Workshop, and MyDVD 4...

Is there any one of these that you would recommend for convert VHS to DVD quickly and with the best quality? Or, is there another? Let me know.

    Thanks again.

  6. If you dont care about editing, then Movie Factory 2 is perfect...It will do all the capturing, simple triming if necessary, encoding/compressing, and authoring. You're ready to go...Enjoy!!

  8. JennyBear,

If your camcorder has analog inputs and supports passthrough, you can use that instead of the ADVC-100.
