I have a couple of dvd-r movies from my cousin that I would like to make a copy of for myself. It seems it makes no sense copying it on my mac since I burned it and it would not play. How can I do this on my pc laptop? What programs should I use? Is the a guide, I should look at? Thanks!

The only program you should need is "DVD Decrypter", which is free. You just pop the original DVD-R in your dvd-rom drive, and start DVD Decrypter. Select "Mode", "ISO", "Read", and after you have the destination for your file selected, click on the picture of the "disc and hard drive". It will take around 30 min, and you will have two files, one of which will be an "ISO" file. After you have finished reading the files to your hard drive, re-open DVD Decrypter and place a blank DVD-R in your DVD-RW drive. Then select "Mode", "ISO", and "Write", and browse your computer to find the location of the "ISO" file you just ripped. After you have chosen it, click on the same picture of the "CD" and DVD Decrypter will write you an exact copy of the original disc !
This is about the easiest way to make an exact copy of a disc that doesn't require re-encoding, and you don't even need any additional burning software! -
Use DVDBackup to make a copy of the disc to a folder on your HD and then burn the folder to a dvd-r with Toast (if youhave it). DVDBackup can be found at versiontracker.com. Hope this helps.Originally Posted by Tripps22

That sounds like a lot of trouble - taking 30 minutes to make a ISO image and then burn the copy. Just use the "Copy DVD" optio nin Nero. It takes me about 8 minutes to make a exact image copy on my hard drive. Then I can burn it to DVD. Works perfectly

yeah copy dvd in nero works great. you can also use the option to save the image file on your computer then if you wish to copy in the future just got file > burn image and goto town
-
Where can I get dvd decrypter from? The nero thing is not working should I put the dvd-r copy in my burner which is external firewire or in my dvd-rom?

It's free! Just go under "Tools" on the left, and it's under "DVD Rip Tools".

you put the dvd in your rom and push copy it copies the file to your hd then prompts you for a blank stick it in and go check the settings that you have source and output right

Not to be anal, but this may be considered warez. For the purpose of the site's protection, we're going to assume these are home movies.Originally Posted by Tripps22
Anyway, yeah, just use a copying program like Nero. These discs don't need to be shrunk or decrypted since they are already DVD-R format. Just copied. You can go from DVD-ROM to DVD-R or do the old copy-to-HD then back to DVD-R method.I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored. -

Yep. Put original in dvd-rom, put blank in dvd-r, use DVD-Copy option in Nero. Works great, any version can copy good.Originally Posted by Tripps22Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Yes if its a reauthored DVD then Decrypter would do a fine job. Personally I'd just do like TX suggest and use NERO.
I will note however that after using DVDDecrypter for burning for the first time recently I have noticed a problem.
When it removes reigons and PUOPS and such it doesn't always correct the files correcly. This showed up big time when backing upmy Roughnecks DVDs. I had to load then into IFOedit to get the correction right. Another it actually cause a problem on in my DVD player was Footloose, until I "Got VTS Sectors" in Ifoedit the menu was messed up. -
Warez, isn't that a place in Texas and by the way why don't you get a job instead of sitting on this site all day giving out your 2 cents. Gee 7 years of tech support, you'll be running for vice president next.
