    Just bought the new HP 9900 series which is a DVD-CD/RW combo drive. Just curious if anyone has any opinions on this guy. I burned a few MP3's and some test videos (VCD) and it seemed to work ok under Nero 5.5.

    Anyone else have experiences positive or negative about this drive?

    I'm wondering if you really can burn a 450 minute VCD on a writable DVD disc.

    I'm not sure on that.

    But just to clarify, this drive can read DVD's, not write. It only writes CD-R's and CD-RW's. I think they have another model that can do DVD writes but its much more expensive. This drive cost me only 199$ - rebate from HP's site. You can probably get it cheaper somewhere else, ie http://www.pricewatch.com may have some links to cheaper sites.

    since dvd supports mpeg 1, it is possible.
