I was trying to burn a FujiFilm 2.4x DVD+R with Sony DRX-500UL using Ulead DVD Factory 2 software and I got a screen stating:

Total lenght of movie in harddisk: 4.6 GB
Total available space in DVD+R: 4.4 GB

The DVD+R was empty and never used. Is 4.4 GB a limit for Sony DRX-500UL or a limit for FujiFilm 2.4x DVD+R or am I missing something?

I authored a home movie bu using the same FujiFilm 2.4x DVD+R and had no problems. Bu the size of home movie was 2.2 GB.

I was able to burn a DVD movie I own to the same FujiFilm 2.4x DVD+R for testing purposes and it was ok too.

    Any ideas?

The capacity of a DVD+R disc is 4,700,000,000 Bytes (4.7 Billion Bytes).

    4,700,000,000 Bytes x (1 KB / 1024 bytes) x (1 MB / 1024 KB) x (1 GB / 1024 MB) = 4.377 GB.

  3. No, you aren't missing anything. The figure "4.7GB" is misleading when it comes to a DVDRS capacity. The actual capacity is 4.3GB or 4.489GB to be even more precise. Your project exceeded that capacity by two gigs.
